Overview

BRIDGE (Bridging Knowledge and Access to Genetic Services) is a comprehensive training course designed to equip healthcare professionals, students, researchers, and public health practitioners with the knowledge and skills needed to understand, apply, and promote genetic services in clinical and community healthcare settings.

The course provides a practical introduction to human genetics, genomics, genetic disorders, genetic testing, counseling principles, ethical and legal considerations, and the integration of genetic services into routine healthcare. Participants will learn how genetics influences disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and personalized medicine while exploring strategies for improving access to genetic services, particularly in low-resource and underserved communities.

Through interactive learning, case studies, and real-world applications, BRIDGE empowers learners to identify individuals and families who may benefit from genetic services, interpret basic genetic information, communicate effectively with patients, and collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams. The course also highlights emerging technologies and innovations that are transforming genetic healthcare.

By the end of the course, participants will have the foundational competencies to support equitable access to genetic services, contribute to improved patient care, and advocate for the responsible integration of genetics and genomics into healthcare systems.

Meet Our Team

BRIDGE is led by a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, genetic specialists, researchers and international academic partners working to strengthen access to genetic services in oncology across Kenya.
